I’ll See you in my Dreams…
a stage adaptation of Michal Noah’s award-winning children’s book, with original songs by Stuart Ardern
Inspired by her daughter, Michal Noah created “I’ll See You In My Dreams” as an antidote to bedtime blues, particularly a child’s fear of nightmares. The central character, Hoppy, plans her dreams with her parents, and looks forward to night-time adventures. Now it has been reworked as a stage play for young children, with the dream episodes brought to life in four simple songs.
The piece is simple but flexible, designed to be performed by anything from a small group to a whole class of young readers, utilising a small cast of core characters and a flexible chorus singing and acting-out the songs. It can be staged as simply or as elaborately as resources allow. (So there is an option to expand the theatrical experience by, for example, preparing and painting simple scenery.)
The text and performance rights are available from Lazy Bee Scripts, a theatrical publisher with worldwide reach. The Lazy Bee Scripts web site (www.lazybeescripts.co.uk) allows the texts of thousands of plays to be read on-line. The pieces for young children include adaptations of Michal Noah’s The Magic Tree, A to Z: The Universe In Me, Ant Chant, Sparkles, and now I’ll See You In My Dreams. In addition to the full text, the web site includes sample of songs from the musical pieces. ~ Stuart Ardern
The Ant Chant
A short musical rhyming play by Michal Noah, based on her children’s book
Best-selling author Michal Noah’s latest book has been adapted to the stage as a musical play. The Ant Chant portrays a day in the life of a happy, hardworking little ant and her worker companions. Despite their tiny size, the ants are as tenacious and strong as the day is long. Once the work is done the ants take time to reflect on their day’s work with a feeling of pride and fulfillment, before heading off to play!
The piece contains two musical numbers, complete with backing, vocal tracks and musical scores. Setting for the play is simple, and costumes can be as elaborate as the performing company chooses – There are plenty of opportunities for creativity in creating props, and performing the script gives children the perfect exercise in team building, confidence, and cooperation.
